How to Plant Your Cabbage in a Container
Spade or shovel
Watering can or garden hose with sprinkler nozzle
Choose a spot for your container that receives full sun (6-8 hours, per day). Place the container on your deck, patio, open porch, or driveway. Your container should be at least 12 inches deep and 18 inches wide, with good drainage holes in the bottom.
Fill the container with premium quality potting soil. Using your hands or a trowel, dig a hole for the cabbage as deep as the pot the cabbage came in.
Fill in the hole around your plant, and press the soil firmly around the base of the plant to remove any air pockets.
